[1843] - Staff Back end Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to drive the evolution of backend technology, infrastructure, and AI capabilities within a fast-growing, mobile-first product company.

In this role, you will work closely with the CTO and engineering team to design and scale the core backend architecture, enabling high performance, reliability, and rapid product iteration. You will lead complex technical initiatives, contribute to platform foundations, and play a key role in how the system evolves as the company grows.

This is a high-impact role for someone who combines deep technical expertise with leadership and ownership, and enjoys building systems that scale in real-world, product-driven environments.

Responsibilities

• Design and evolve the backend architecture powering core products and internal platforms

• Build and maintain scalable, reliable backend services

• Lead complex technical initiatives across backend, infrastructure, and developer tooling

• Improve observability, reliability, and deployment workflows across the stack

• Work directly with cloud services (AWS, Supabase, Cloudflare)

• Define technical standards and scalable foundations for engineering teams

• Mentor and support other engineers, fostering technical growth

• Collaborate with leadership to drive technical decisions and platform evolution

Requirements

Experience

• 7+ years of experience building and operating large-scale backend systems

• Experience working in product-driven companies

• Proven experience influencing or owning architecture decisions across teams

Technical Skills

• Strong backend development expertise with Kotlin, Java, Go, Python, or similar

• Deep understanding of distributed systems, performance, and reliability

• Experience designing scalable system architectures

• Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure and production environments

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and developer platforms/tooling

• Experience with observability tools (Datadog, New Relic, or similar)

AI

• Experience integrating AI models or AI-powered workflows into production systems
